North Macedonia Highest Mountains
This hiking adventure takes you into the highest mountain ranges of North Macedonia. Designed as a round-trip with moderate day hikes, the journey leads you to some of the most iconic summits in the country. You will hike to Mount Korab 2,764 m – the highest peak in North Macedonia and Albania, climb Tito’s Peak 2,747 m – the highest point of the Shar Mountains, and reach Pelister Peak 2,601 m – the third-highest in the country, famous for its unique Molika pine forests and the stunning glacial “Pelister Eyes” lakes. The adventure continues on trails along the Macedonia–Albania border, offering breathtaking panoramas of untouched mountain landscapes.
Beyond the summits, this tour is also a journey through culture. Along the way, you’ll discover traditional villages, historic towns, and authentic Macedonian hospitality—a perfect balance between outdoor adventure and cultural immersion.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Skopje – Transfer to Popova Shapka
Meet your guide at Skopje Airport. If time allows, a short sightseeing tour of Skopje. Easy hike in Matka Canyon.Transfer (1.5h) to Popova Shapka, a ski resort at 1700m. Overnight in a mountain guesthouse.
Day 2: Hike up to Titos Peak
We will start early in the morning. Today, we have 7–9 hours of hiking, covering 21km with a 1050m elevation gain. After the hike, we have a 1.30-hour transfer to the Hotel in Mavrovo National Park. Overnight.
Day 3: Climb Mount Korab 2764m.
We have 40 minutes. Drive to the start point with 4×4 jeeps, and on the way, a police border check. We have 8–9 hours hiking, 19km, 1325m elevation gain. Back to the Hotel in Mavrovo.
Day 4: Velivar Peak 2373m.
We have 40 minutes. Drive to the village of Bitushe. 1030 m. on the way, visit Lake Lokuv and hike 7–8 hours, 16km, 1343m elevation gain. Drive to Ohrid on the way, visit St.John the Baptist’s old monastery. Accommodation in Ohrid city.
Day 5: Rest Day in Ohrid – Optional Activities
Free day in UNESCO Ohrid. Optional guided city tour or activities: Kayaking / SUP / Sailing on Lake Ohrid. Cultural exploration and lakeside lunch.
Day 6: Magaro Peak, Galicica National Park
Check out of the Hotel. Transfer to the trailhead (1,600m). Hike to Magaro peak: 8.5km / 4–5 hrs / +700m. elevation gain. Panoramic views over Ohrid & Prespa Lakes. Evening transfer and accommodation in Bitola city. Visit Heraclea ancient site in Bitola.
Day 7: Pelister Peak 2601m.
Full-day hike (9–10 hours, 24km), 1200m elevation gain. Climb Pelister peak and visit the Pelister Eyes lakes. Later 2:30 hours, transfer to Skopje for the final night.
Day 8: Departure from Skopje
Transfer to Skopje Airport based on your flight schedule—end of the tour.
